Carolyn Brown shares Earthbody Alive practice, yoga and retreats with people who want to deepen their relationship with wild nature through powerful – and fun – direct experiences. She created Earthbody Alive from her ongoing apprenticeship with the Land and her collaboration with kindred humans.
Carolyn’s world opened up radically when she stepped outside with the intention to let the Land retrain her body and reclaim her mind. A long-time yoga practitioner and Anusara Yoga teacher — as well as a dancer, writer, eco-activist, athlete and wilderness explorer — she began weaving together all of her passions and practices. In 2007, she met Mick Dodge (the Barefoot Sensei featured in National Geographic TV’s “The Legend of Mick Dodge”) and began training intensively with him to bring all of her desire, skills and questions out into the Earthgym. She continues to deepen her intimacy with the Land – primarily in Colorado, California and the Southwest – while inspiring kindred humans to re-inhabit our natural, positive place in the web of life.
Carolyn has practiced yoga for more than 25 years and transformational dance for 15 years. She has trained with master teachers in yoga, meditation, philosophy, vision questing, shamanic practices and more. Her dance influences include 5Rhythms, Soul Motion, CoreConnexion, Authentic Movement, Contact Improv, Ecstatic Dance and Anna Halprin. In earlier years, she competed in triathlons, cycling, soccer, collegiate water polo and figure skating. She grew up in water, on ice, on horseback, in the thick grass and rolling hills of eastern Pennsylvania.
Wherever she goes, Carolyn’s wild heart and activist voice remain strong. She is working to protect wildlife and wildlands across the West. She has served many environmental organizations as a communication consultant or board member. She co-created the first Gathering of Wild Tribes in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 2012; ran a regional nature magazine for many years; and has written for Common Ground, Yogi Times and Elephant Journal.
Carolyn weaves in and out of civilization to share practices, cross-pollinate insights and stock up on chocolate.
