This wilderness dance retreat is an opportunity to deepen your Earthbody awareness and expression in the wilds of Colorado’s Rocky Mountain peaks. The focus of this retreat is creating and witnessing sit- specific “Scores” in nature, as solos or groups, based on the principles of Life/Art Process (see below). Scoreography, unlike choreography, tells us what to do, but not how to do it. Facilitators will work with small groups to support and guide you through the “how” of your experience. The performances of the scores will be “witnessed” by the other participants. The role of “witness”, as distinct from audience, is very important. The witnesses are supporting with an open, caring heart space and with their full attention so that people can share freely, and the witnesses receive their own direct experience.
This retreat is produced by NatureMoves, which has been leading Wilderness Trips into the backcountry for over 22 years for the purpose of bringing art and nature into our lives. We believe that nature and art work together as a powerful healer. We will use the natural environment and the information that it holds to guide our aesthetic expression, encouraging personal reflection to rekindle an ancient and intimate rapport with our natural heritage.
* Life/Art Process intro: The workshop will be based on the Life/Art Process, a movement-based, intermodel art form. Most people bring their life into their art; this is about bringing in art to enhance and enrich the quality of our lives.
We have been strongly influenced by the Life/Art Process (LAP) work of Anna and Daria Halprin, co-founders of the Tamalpa Institute. For books to read on this subject, go to their
